Today, my teacher Michael Kochman (the photo editor for EW) let me come onto the set of a photoshoot. The story is supposed to be on “New Fall TV Shows”.

Ture Lillegraven was the man behind the camera for today’s shoot. I went to West Hollywood around 4pm to Milk studios. I took a few pictures on my Iphone behind the scenes. It was a pretty cool shoot. Very laid back, and Ture had a lot of time with the celebrity. The celebrity’s name is Nina Dobev. I guess she is the star of the new upcoming TV show. I have never heard of this new TV show. What is up with people and vampires? First I hear about Twilight and then the movie Let the Right one In and and then True Blood… I don’t get what the fuss is about vampires. But whatever.

Ture had about 4 different lighting setups. Three of the setups were already pre-lit and ready to go. And the fourth setup was very on the fly. The natural light came through the windows above the studio and it casted a really interesting shadow that Ture had noticed, so he decided to do a quick shoot. Ture shot all film for this shoot– because there wasn’t a rush. Ture mentioned to me that he’ll shoot digitally if there is a rush or if it was for advertising.

It was just a really good vibe going on in the studio. Michael was playing his music on the stereo, Ture was shooting away.. he shot about 45 rolls of film! Or so he thinks he did. The shoot lasted from 430pm to 7pm. After the shoot, Ture had a chance to talk to me about photography and business and education. He told me to get whatever I could out of school and that I definitely should make a trip out to New York to meet with art directors, photo editors to talk about work. Ture mentioned he had no formal training in photography, which I thought was interesting. I really do enjoy the work he produces. Its so spontaneous. It’s great.

From what I had observed from today’s shoot the way Ture shoots is using the on camera flash and using a strobe pack to power in a little fill light and to pop in the eyes.

Last thing! I showed Michael Kochman FM’s website and he complimented FRA’s layout. I also had pointed out to him that some of the photos on FM’s banners were mine and he said GOOD! I told him to check out FM. He bookmarked the website. :] And he also downloaded some Girl Talk music after an assistant of Ture’s and I were talking to Kochman about music. I’m excited, I hope he likes it.
