8/25/07 – The Receiving End of Sirens, Hopesfall, Emanuel, and Goodbye Tomorrow @ Chain Reaction
I just returned from the show and it really wasn’t bad, notwithstanding the $15 admission. With 80% new members, the revamped Hopesfall was still a very tight group. Even though they were talented musicians, I was bothered by the notion that they’re basically equivalent to a cover band with 4 new members.
While I was perusing the merch, I had the audacity to ask the vendor what happened to all the old members. Uncomfortable with answering, the vendor managed to reply: “a conflict of interest.” It was not until after the show I was informed that that vendor was actually the new drummer. Gosh–I keep hearing ignorance is bliss but it surely can hurt people’s feelings.
When TREOS was on I couldn’t get over how the lead singer/guitarist looks and moves just like Brett Deter. You know…that pretentious arched back. But Juliana Theory was such a better band.
It was also nice to be back at Chain to unwind for a little bit. Behind me are the days where I would visit the venue 2-3 a week. They say that as we grow older, we look at the past with rose-tinted glasses, but really, it was a better time in the early 2000′s when there wasn’t a porn shop next to Chain. Yeah seriously. When did they open a sex shop where the Greco-Roman furniture store used to be?
